Starting October 21, Capeltic – Our Coffee is expanding its horizons and reaching the university community of Santa Clara University in California, USA. Capeltic — a cooperative that is part of the Yomol A’tel Group and the COMPARTE Network — will serve as the exclusive coffee supplier for Cadence Café, located in Lucas Hall, home to the university’s Leavey School of Business.

To celebrate this partnership, a reopening ceremony was held, led by Julie H. Sullivan, Ph.D., President of Santa Clara University, together with Fr. Matthew Carnes, S.J., and Fr. Stephen Pitts, S.J., who offered words of welcome and performed the ribbon-cutting. Representing Capeltic and Yomol A’tel, Eduardo Hernández, Commercial Manager of the group, expressed gratitude on behalf of the coffee-producing families.

This project was driven by students and the university’s Ignatian Center, who succeeded in replacing the previous supplier — widely recognized by its mermaid logo — making Capeltic the new base for all espresso and brewed coffee beverages. The café also refreshed its visual identity to share the story and origin behind every new cup of coffee.

The initiative is the result of a collaboration among various organizations linked to the Society of Jesus in Mexico and the United States. Through a multi-actor strategy, new connections have been established between Jesuit works in both countries, fostering the exchange of experiences between coffee-producing families from the northern jungle of Chiapas and members of the university community committed to responsible consumption and sustainability.

With the support of the Ignatian Solidarity Network (ISN), efforts have been underway for over a year to explore ways for Capeltic to reach consumers in the United States — especially within Jesuit communities — through both local partnerships and an online store that delivers nationwide.

Beyond this milestone, both organizations aim to continue building bridges between students and the cooperative work taking place in Chiapas. The goal is to introduce other Yomol A’tel Group ventures, such as honey products, aromatic plants, and Tseltal embroidered handicrafts, following the same collaborative model. Future partnerships with the School of Business are also envisioned to strengthen export capabilities and gain deeper insight into the U.S. market.
